The Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Preparing Applicants for Higher Education to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science in Higher Education Institutions (Scientific Institutions)” dated March 23, 2016 No. 261, specifies the preparation of an individual plan for a PhD student.
According to clause 10, as amended up to Resolution No. 283 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated April 3, 2019, PhD students (adjuncts) and doctoral students conduct research based on an individual research plan, which determines the content, deadlines and amount of scientific work, as well as the forecasted deadline before which the thesis is expected to have been defended within the terms of postgraduate (adjunct) and doctoral studies.
The individual plan of scientific work of the student is approved by both his/her supervisor (consultant) and the academic board of the higher education institution (scientific institution) or academic board of the relevant structural unit within two months from the date of the PhD student admission to the higher education institution (scientific institution).
An individual plan of scientific work is mandatory for the PhD student seeking an appropriate degree to perform and is used to assess the progress of the planned scientific work.
Failure to carry out or to meet the terms of fulfilling an individual plan of scientific work without valid reasons provided by regulatory documents may be considered the basis for the academic board to decide to expel a postgraduate student (adjunct) or a doctoral student.
